Frequently Asked Printing Questions

How do you dispatch your items?

We can deliver in our own vehicles, use couriers, or Royal Mail/Parcel Force. We charge for all these at "cost", and use the best method for each delivery based on time constraint/weight/area.

If I live in the area, can I pick up my printing myself?

Absolutely, if you live / work in the North West then feel free to come and pick up your own printing, sometimes we know it's difficult for someone to be at your premises all day long to stay in for a package to be delivered.

Can you use images I have downloaded from the internet?

Yes, we can, but these are often poor quality and you should use these with caution. We cannot guarantee the standard of the final print job if poor images are used. Ideally graphics should be 400dpi and saved in CMYK. Many online images are saved in RGB and as low as 72dpi, resulting in poor quality print, particularly if enlarged.

I have used an internet company but I can't download the artwork to send to you. What can I do?

Certain internet companies provide templates for you to use, and simply add your details. These templates will be copyrighted to that company and you won't be able to use them with any other printers. We can re-create similar effects to those you require.

We don't use templates. There may be extra artwork charges but we want you to stand out from the crowd.

The problem with internet company templates is that it is quite obvious you have just dumped your text on a pre-prepared template. Your stationery says a lot about you, and the quality of some internet-based company printing leaves a lot to be desired. You generally get what you pay for, so a cheap job will generally mean a cheap looking job.

We work through each stage of your print job with you, so we both know what we want to achieve. It may cost a little more, but it is likely that the results will far outweigh the extra cost.

Can you work from WORD and PUBLISHER files?

Yes we can. There may be extra artwork charges if problems occur, but generally we can convert Microsoft files into our print programs.

Can you enlarge my artwork if I can't supply it size for size?

Yes, we can, but bear in mind that the enlargement must be in proportion both lengthways and widthways. A newspaper advert of 10cm x 10cm would not 'enlarge' to an A5 leaflet, as A5 is rectangular, and any stretch-to-fit would cause an imbalance. Enlargement through 'A' sizes will always work (A5 to A4, A4 to A3 etc.)

Will my finished job be the same colour as I can see on my pc monitor screen?

Unfortunately, not necessarily, particularly if you have experimented with obscure colours. Your pc monitor will not have been set up to reflect exact, true colours. If a specific colour is required, a pantone reference should be given.

Can you print right to the edges of the paper, particularly the background colour?

This is referred to as "bleed edges". The key to this is that when putting together an artwork, you must add an extra 3mm outside the print area, so we can print oversize, then trim to the required dimension. Example: A4 leaflet 297 x 210 mm with bleed edges all round - artwork must be sent 303 x 216 with extra 3mm border to each side. The alternative is to make a 5 or 10mm white gutter round the artwork so the whole artwork fits neatly within the A4. If in doubt, give us a call and we can talk through the alternatives.
